突破性的碳捕获技术大幅降低80%成本

据气体世界网2022年3月29日报道,据这个项目开发商披露,总部位于北爱尔兰首府贝尔法斯特的MOF技术公司开发的一种新型模块化碳捕获系统可能会“彻底改变碳捕获世界”。 

这个被命名为Nuada的新型模块化碳捕获系统旨在消除限制加速投资碳捕获技术商业化的障碍。

这个通过使用由真空变压吸附(PSA)技术驱动的“超高效”系统,结合基于金属有机框架(MOF)的过滤器,能源处理成本可以降低80%,从而将捕获每吨二氧化碳(CO2)的成本降低到13英镑。

MOFs通过使用定制的化学物质来靶向、捕获和去除特定的气体(如二氧化碳),从而有选择性地工作。 

这个解决方案是一种更清洁、更可持续的替代能源密集型的胺类溶剂系统,而胺类溶剂系统每去除一吨二氧化碳需要3.4GJ的能源。

在谈到胺溶剂处理的“极度高”的能量需求时,MOF技术公司的联合首席执行官康纳·哈米尔博士表示,这种技术已被证明是许多机构采用碳捕集技术的一大障碍。 

哈米尔坚信,Nuada将帮助工业实现脱碳目标,绝对彻底改变碳捕获行业。

在成功完成了原型机的测试以后,MOF技术公司目前正在建造一个野外试验工厂。

‘Breakthrough’ carbon capture tech slashes costs

A new modular carbon capture system developed by Belfast-based MOF Technologies could ‘revolutionise the world of carbon capture’, according to its developers.

Its Nuada system aims to remove barriers that restrict accelerated investment into the commercialisation of carbon capture technology. 

By utilising an ‘ultra-efficient’ system driven by vacuum pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology combined with a metal-organic framework (MOF)-based filter, energy process costs could be reduced by 80% resulting in a cost of capture reduced to as low as £13 per tonne of carbon dioxide (CO2). 

MOFs work selectively by using bespoke chemistry to target, capture, and remove specific gases such as CO2. 

The solution presents itself as a cleaner, more sustainable alternative to energy-intensive amine solvent-based systems, which can require up to 3.4GJ (gigajoules) of energy per tonne of CO2 removed. 

Referring to the ‘cripplingly high’ energy requirements of amine solvent treatment, Dr. Conor Hamill, Co-CEO, MOF Technologies, stated such technology has proved to be a prohibitive barrier to carbon capture adoption for many organisations. 

Hamill firmly believes that Nuada will help industry achieve decarbonisation goals, acting to positively disrupt the carbon capture industry. 

“Unlike traditional approaches, the modular system can be easily connected to a facility’s waste gas line without extensive redesign or installation work,” he said. 

“The launch of the Nuada system is a game-changing moment for carbon capture,” added Hamill. 

Having successfully completed tests of a prototype, MOF Technologies is currently building an in-field pilot plant.
